Pakistan stoops lower by the day

Vice Chief of the Indian Army Lieutenant General Sarath Chand on Tuesday hit out at Pakistan for targeting schools near the Line of Control. “Pakistan shelled schools, not something we’d do. When we retaliate, we assure Pakistan military is targeted,” Lt Gen Chand said. He also added that it was unfortunate to see the Pakistani Army having stooped down so low. “Unfortunate to see they’ve stooped so low,” he said speaking on civilian casualties in ceasefire violation by Pakistan.

Normal life in villages across the Line of Control has been thrown out of gear with continuous incidents of ceasefire violation by Pakistan in the past couple of weeks. Last week, there were over eight incidents of unprovoked firing by Pakistan that left three civilians dead. Over 18 have also been injured in the firing while six soldiers have been martyred.

 

Vandemataram to be played in all educational and government institutions

Madras High court on Tuesday ordered that Vande Mataram must be played in all schools, colleges and universities, at least once a week preferably on Mondays or Fridays, reported ANI. The Court ruled that the National Song must be played in all government offices and institutions, as well as private offices, factories and industries once a month. The court however said that anyone with a valid reason to not sing Vande Mataram should not be forced. It also instructed the Director of Public Information to upload a translated version of the song in Tamil and English on government websites and its social media accounts.

 

Ram Nath Kovind was on Tuesday sworn in as 14th President

Ram Nath Kovind was on Tuesday sworn in as 14th President and called for making India an economic leader as well as a moral exemplar. 71-year-old Kovind was administered the oath of office by Chief Justice of India JS Khehar in Parliament’s Central Hall. While pledging to protect and uphold the Constitution, President Kovind promised to uphold the values of justice, independence and equality. Addressing members of Parliament and various dignitaries, including Chief Ministers and diplomatic corps, the President said, “We would be completing 70 years of our Independence soon. We are also well into the second decade of the 21st century, a century that so many of us intuitively believe will be an Indian century, guided and shaped by India and its accomplishments. “We need to build an India that is an economic leader as well as a moral exemplar. For us, those two touchstones can never be separate. They are and must forever be linked,” he asserted.

 

Seven Hurriyat leaders arrested in Kashmir

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Monday arrested seven leaders of Hurriyat and other factions of separatists, including Altaf Ahmed Shah, the son-in-law of hardline separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani, in connection with its probe into the funding of terror and subversive activities in the Kashmir Valley. According to a Times of India report, the arrest of separatist leaders comes after the NIA found evidence of their telephonic conversation with some 48 Jammu and Kashmir youths who have been tracked repeatedly amid stone-pelting mobs over the past year. The telephonic conversations revealed that these ‘habitual’ were in constant touch with local and mid-level Hurriyat leaders, who are believed to be connected to top separatists. It was also found that there was a terror-funding pattern with the top leaders passing funds to local leaders who would pay the youth to pelt stones and unleash mob violence.

 

Jio effect: Vodafone offers free 70GB , 4G data

In a bid to counter Reliance Jio’s attractive mobile data offers, Vodafone has come up with a new plan for its users. The telecom service provider is offering 70GB 4G data for 70 days to its users along with unlimited calling facility. However, this new Rs 244 mobile data plan of Vodafone is applicable exclusively just to the new customers. A user can make use of 1GB data in a day. In addition, a subscriber can avail unlimited calling facility for 70 days. A new user under this plan goes for a second recharge will still enjoy unlimited calling and data facility but plan validity will get reduced to 35 days.
