Vodafone-Idea merger makes biggest telecom company


Kumar Mangalam Birla led Idea Cellular has agreed to merge Indian unit of U.K.-headquartered Vodafone Plc with itself, making it $23 billion telco giant.The merged entity becomes India’s largest mobile telephony and data service provider with 39.25 crore customers, ahead of the current market leader Airtel, which has a 26.44 crore user base.Both figures are provided by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India.

 

Norway is the world’s happiest country

According to Word Happiness Report 2017 released by United Nations on the International Day of Happiness, Norway emerged No.1. Norway surged from fourth place to the top spot. all of the top four countries rank highly on all the main factors found to support happiness: caring, freedom, generosity, honesty, health, income and good governance.

 

SC calls for out-of-court settlement in Ayodhya case

The Chief Justice of India advised peace negotiations instead of a pitched court battle. SC suggeste an out-of-court rapprochement among rival parties in the 68-year-old Ramjanmabhoomi-Babri Masjid dispute. A large part of the delay is due to the fact that records date back to 16th century and written in several languages.

Aadhaar, a ‘must’ for IT returns

The NDA government has proposed to make Aadhaar mandatory for individuals to apply for a PAN (Permanent Account Number) card and file income tax returns from July 1 this year. Finance, Defence and Corporate Affairs Minister Arun Jaitley moved an amendment, to this effect, in the draft Finance Bill 2017that was taken up by the Lok Sabha.
